Syncing Google Calendar on iPhone with Shared Calendars

by on Jul.21, 2011, under Warren

I had been wanting to share a calendar with my soon to be wife, and have this calendar editable by both of us via our iPhone/HTC. It turns out that it is easier than I thought. With iPhone OS v3.0 and later, Apple has built-in support for CalDAV.

To sync with your device, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings application on your device’s home screen.
  2. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Select Add Account…
  4. Select Other.
  5. Select Add CalDAV Account.
  6. Enter your account information:
    • In the Server field, enter [ google.com ]
    • In the Username field, enter your full Google Account or Google Apps email address.
    • In the Password field, enter your Google Account or Google Apps password.
    • In the Description field, enter the name you’d like to appear on the account.
  7. Select Next at the top of your screen.

After you’ve completed setup, open the Calendar app on your device and syncing will automatically begin.

By default only your primary calendar will be synced to your device. You can sync additional calendars by visiting the following page from any web browser:

https://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect

Select the calendars you’d like to sync, and click Save. The selected calendars will display on your device at the time of the next sync.

Now, changes I make to a shared calendar are immediately shown on my soon to be wife’s calendar (by immediately, I mean as soon as her calendar finishes refreshing).

Note: Change the calendar sharing settings to allow editing on both ends for selected users.

The Invasion of the Kangaroos!

by on Jul.18, 2011, under Warren

The new threat is real as I have seen the Killer Kangaroos attacking, and might I say, very scary.

We are being invaded by evil Jedi Knight Kangaroos now, the new wave of attaching kangabots will be arriving here soon. BE AWARE! KILL ON SIGHT!

I have been told that Chuck Norris has been seen killing off Kangabots for us. I do hope he succeeds.

All our lives depend of you Chuck Norris! My you kill all the Kangabots and return our country back to us!

Places I have Visited

by on Jul.18, 2011, under Warren

I had a plan to go to bed early tonight, but that never happened. I just decided out of the blue to make a post and page for all the places I have visited. Well all that I can remember and locate. I have used Google starred and places/maps to pin every location.

I’ve made the places available via the below Google Maps api and KML file.

If you want to view all the places in Google Earth, download it here.

Or via the standard Google Maps – My Places Visited

Onward to 2011

Launch of new websites

I have release several new web sites this year and by the looks, more to come too. I recall my first website was created late in 1998 and was pretty good for that time. I have also given our website - www.snw.com.au a new look and feel this year and I have decided to drop all support for Internet Explorer 8 and below. I have made this website work just enough for IE8 or lower so don’t worry.

Grow professionally

Not sure what this means, but it means something. I’m continuing to learn more about tools, processes, automation, and business, and perhaps this will turn into something even more?

Read Read Read

Somehow I read 0 books last year. This should not continue! I need a iPad which should make reading entirely easy all the time. Reading is something I need to do more often to relax me. Also because this animated GIF does not always make me laugh now!

Live simpler, healthier, and happier

Life is too short to expend any effort on things that don’t add value. This means to start/continue:

  • Selling/Donating/Trashing things I have that I don’t need
  • Not buying things that I don’t need
  • Downsizing the number of commitments I make for things that I don’t want to do
  • Simplifying all the “processes” in my life, from grocery shopping to dealing with people
  • Doing more of things that I enjoy. Photography, four wheel driving, xbox and spending time with Stacey and family.
  • Cooking delicious meals at home and eating out less, I know I am going to get in trouble for this one cause I don’t cook often!

The end of another blog of my life to date.

2010 is out, 2011 is in

by on Jan.13, 2011, under Warren

My 2010 Goals didn’t happen exactly as expected, but I’m happy with the result.

  • Buy the new Digital DSLR Nikon D3x camera I so much wanted. Now I want that and the Canon equivalent.
  • To fix up my Suzuki Hayabusa (GSX1300R). It’s in need of some minor work like; new hoses, tank clean, new battery and a major service by the mechanic.
  • I had this grand plan to lose 18kgs to 20kg, and be at the weight I was four years ago. But I did not make this happen YET.
  • I wanted to print a few big photos and place them on the walls, but this never happened. I must do this in 2011.
  • Trips were taken: Port Macquarie: a family holiday and exploration of the local area; Orange: for only one night, but we squeezed in allot; Barrington Tops – Telegherry: We camped for four nights, and loved every minute; Brisbane: for a wonderful wedding of Ashley and Rebecca.

Halfway through the year I completely changed gears from a technical & hardware support role to become a mixed software developer (JavaPHPHTMLCSSAntJenkinspuppetZend frameworkJavaScriptSEO etc etc) while keeping the technical & hardware support role at Future School and it’s been a blast! For the second half of 2010. I worked on several different projects with a handful of smart people out side of Future School and I’m looking forward to what happens in 2011, and at Future School of course.

I asked Stacey to marry me in November, which she most certainly said yes. This made me a very happy kid again, more about this in our about us section on how we met.
